The Bigger, Better, Bessies.
The 51st Bessies
Whatever you want to call it, it was a very important year for the show.
So we made a few changes. It started with a handful of more categories to reflect our ever-changing business, and new Silver awards to properly recognize more standout work by our peers. As well, we joined the global initiative of 50/50 men to women jury ratio, not to mention a great representation from Vancouver to Halifax. All to ensure the Bessies remain at the forefront of awarding the best of screen advertising in Canada.
The result? Well first off, the number of entries increased by over 40%. Pressure’s on Denise Rossetto (next year’s Chair).
During the judging, there was a lot of great debate, deliberation and name-calling. Actually, it was more "incorrect" name-calling (long story) and in the end, awarding of the best, most-inspiring work in the country.
As always, we also awarded some of Canada's most talented individuals in our industry for their incredible contributions with the Bob Mann Award for Excellence in Post-production, the Janet Woods Award for Best Producer, the Don Award for a Future Leader in the Film Industry, the Walter Bell Award and the Spiess Award for Lifetime Achievement in Television Advertising.
On behalf of the TVB, I'd also like to thank our team of sponsors and partners for their generous support and involvement to help make this year’s Bessies, well, bigger and better.
Congrats to all the finalists. See you at the show.
